Individualized Reading and Writing Course:

Duration: 60 hrs

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

The course emphasizes reading comprehension and will prepare students for entrance into adult education Level 1 and 2 English courses and/or job demands

After successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

1: Apply word analysis skills to increase vocabulary.

2: Comprehend short factual text in a variety of subjects.

3: Compose sentences and short narratives on familiar topics.

Reading and Writing II:

Duration: 60 hrs

Tuesday and Thursday

Self-paced reading and writing skills lab to prepare students for success in Secondary school English courses in High school and adult education Centers

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1: Use context clues to infer meaning of unfamiliar words

2: Identify the main idea and major/minor supporting details of single paragraphs and draw conclusions

3: Compose short essays with well-developed paragraphs that include topic sentences and supporting details

English Language Help Workshops:

Duration: 60 hrs

Monday and Wednesday

These Workshops are intended to help students in High school and Adult centers with their English assignments.

The workshops focus on the following

1. Identify main ideas, supporting details, and context clues in literary and expository texts

2. Interpreting and analyze literary, informational, and persuasive texts

3. Basic sentence structure, grammar, capitalization,

4. Mechanics in paragraph and essay writing

5. Writing organized paragraphs and short essays in response to prompts using the writing process

6. Interpret and analyze nonfiction and informational texts

7. Create organized, persuasive essays using the writing process (pre-writing, writing, revision/editing)

8. Compose extended response essays presenting well supported arguments based on multiple pieces of evidence from source texts

Mathematics: Arithmetic:

Duration: 60 hrs

Monday and Wednesday

The course focuses on developing arithmetic skills and will prepare students for entrance into adult education Level 1 and 2 Math courses

After successful completion of this course, learners will be able to

  1. Employ whole numbers, decimal, fraction, and percent operations to organize and solve basic math computation and word problems.

Mathematics Labs:

Duration: 60 hrs

The tutorial labs are intended to help high school and adult education students with math assignments and help to prepare students for their in school and government exams. The labs cover Arithmetic to Secondary 5 mathematics courses

Introduction to the use of computer:

Duration: 60 hrs

This course is an introduction to computer concepts and techniques for beginning computer students. Students will learn to use the Windows operating system to organize and manage data, resources and Office applications. A brief introduction of the Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  1. Distinguish between application and systems software.
  2. Manage Windows operating system.
  3. Read, create and respond to E-mail documents and explore the Internet.
  4. Use Microsoft Word to create, edit, save, and print a simple word processing document.
  5. Open and review a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel and understand its application in business.
  6. Open and review a simple database using Microsoft Access.
  7. Create a simple PowerPoint presentation with graphics.

Duration: 60 hrs

This course is for adults with little or no knowledge in Ms Excel. The course focuses on working with pre-created and self-created worksheets

At the end of this course, student will be able

  1. To build and complete simple worksheets
  2. Create simple formulas
  3. To develop a solid foundation in Ms Excel from which to grow from understand how excel works and
